Trailer Watch: Titans!

First off, apologies for the utter lack of posts these last few months. I'm out of the country with little internet access and it costs nearly forty bucks to see a movie. I have no idea what Katie's excuse is. But, here is a some glory!

The Clash of the Titans trailer has hit the web. Now, I was downright furious when I heard Hollywood was remaking this. Truly murderously ticked off. I love the original Clash of the Titans. It's one of my all time favorites. This was simply not a movie you should remake. Not ever. So I decided to boycott this movie completely. Feeling a bit masochistic, I decided to watch the trailer.

Oh boy. You know those awful SciFi (now SyFy) channel movies you watch on the weekend when nothing else is on tv? You know, those truly bad movies that you enjoy mostly because they are that awful. This movie looks like the bastard love child of those movies and 300 with the monsters from Hellboy 2 and just a pinch of Michael Bay's demolitions experts. In short, this movie is going to either be gloriously entertaining or suck worse than Jumper.

Why use Jumper as an example? Because like Jumper, this movie has an entertaining trailer, a fun premise, a potentially great story, and an amazing supporting cast backing a new and rising actor. How great of a supporting cast? How does Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, and Mads Mikkelson sounds? That's almost, if not as, great as the idea of Samuel L. Jackson was in Jumper, especially considering Liam Neeson is playing Zeus. Plus, Alexa Davalos, an actress who I consistently like in everything I see her in despite how bad the movie is (take Chronicles of Riddick) as an example.

Now, I'm a little nervous about Sam Worthington. Sure, I'm more than willing to stare at his face on a giant screen. I am a woman after all. But still, his performance in Terminator: Salvation made me question James Cameron's praises of his acting abilities. I'd like to think that it was the unbelievably bad script and that Cameron, a man whose sanity has been question since long before the PCP incident on the set of Titanic, hasn't completely and utterly lost it and gone crazier than Tom Cruise. I guess we'll just have to wait and let this movie and Avatar tell us the truth about Worthington's acting talents. Still, I can't help but wonder if Sam Worthington in Clash of the Titans will be just like Hayden Christensen in Jumper: proves he can't act in big franchise movie (Star Wars) then confirms it with hyped scifi movie (Jumper). Still, at least there were some solid supporting performances in Jumper, especially from Jamie Bell. I guess we'll just have to wait and let this movie and Avatar tell us the truth about Worthington's acting talents.

You can watch the trailer here.

P.S.
According to IMDB, there is a Jumper 2 in the works. Um, why Hollywood? The first one was horrible. No one is going to see the second one, unless the whole thing is Jamie Bell screwing with Samuel L. Jackson and his cronies. Now that is a movie I'd pay to see.
